Nature Development Company was founded to help reverse biodiversity loss in the world’s most critical ecosystems. Our purpose is to generate nature-positive impact through reforestation, sustainable forestry, and regenerative agriculture in degraded landscapes – combining commercial viability with measurable climate and community benefits.

Our Story

When our children were small, they were captivated by bugs in the backyard and exploring the hidden worlds under piles of leaves with wonder. As they grew, we travelled together to wild places – hiking jungles and exploring remote landscapes, experiencing both the breathtaking beauty of nature and the mounting pressure it faces from human activity. And when they became teenagers, they too inspired us to take even further action by donating and participating in other concrete ways as a family.

In April 2022 we founded the Planetary Responsibility Foundation, dedicated to preserving and restoring nature worldwide, creating a sustainable balance between people and the environment. Together with our CEO, Jens Böhme, we set out to find catalytic ways to accelerate rewilding. From this work Nature Development Company was born.

Nature Development Company exists to restore ecosystems at scale. By working with global investors and repaying their capital through accredited high-quality carbon credits, we aim to rewild vast landscapes of 10,000–100,000 hectares at a time, working hand in hand with local communities to ensure thriving nature and sustainable livelihoods. After 30 years of restoration, these ecosystems will be permanently protected as natural parks.
